Madonna was a massive style icon in the eighties, which has inspired people, Her biggest inspiration was Marilyn Monroe (who obviously had the same effect on so many people) who said "I loved Carole Lombard and Marilyn Monroe. They were all incredibly funny ... and I saw myself in them ... my girlishness, my knowingness and my innocence"Both these women were quite clearly beautiful, blonde and ambitious like Madonna in the eighties, Madonna took the look which Marilyn Monroe had in her film 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' where in a specific scene she was singing 'Diamonds are a girls best friend' in a pink dress with white gloves (quite sophisticated) and re-created this look for her song 'Material Girl'http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b0OyhDQEu8
Her video 'Vogue' re-created the Hollywood glamour photographs, who she said was also inspired by the people who meant a lot to her and imitated the poses of these people such as Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth, and they lyrics were also inspired by these, the photographs used in this video were inspired by Frida Kahlo who Alicia has already mentioned.
